How to Host an Epic St Patrick’s Day Party in 6 Steps

st patricks day party planning guide Cuple photographed in st patricks day outfits with green decorations and beer

Okay so before becoming the party planning expert. I was the general manager of a busy city centre Irish bar. Bar work is what actually really got me into party planning, and if there is one kind of party I know all too well (no, not Taylor Swift despite that pun) It’s a St. Patricks Day Party. Which anyone can do for 2 or 200 people with just 6 simple steps.

what to wear for st patricks day.

When it comes to what to wear for a St Patricks day party, the options are rather varied. Simply put - Green. Everything green.

How you want to go about that is completely up to you - you could go classy, sophisticated green, perfect for an elegant St Patrick’s Day party. You could go comfy and cosy, you could go sexy and provocative. Then on top of all that you have the costume options - Funny T-shirts and Leprechauns outfits.

All of which I’ve covered in this article and St Patricks Style Guide. There you will find everything from Pinterest inspiration to nail, hair, and makeup inspo.

#2 St Patrick’s Day Party Games and Activities

As for the games - and we’re keeping this adult themed.

We’re going to go for drinking games and party games. You can find some good options for St. Patricks day drinking games here. However, here at Weeno, we have a complete St. Patricks day party planner which includes 22 St. Patrick’s day drinking games as well as other goodies to help sort your St Paddy’s entertainment. Meaning the easiest thing is to just pick up that pack.

#3 St Patrick’s Day Party Music

When it comes to setting the mood with the music, Let’s keep it on theme.

To be honest this will be your easitest thing to sort out. All you need to do is stick on any music channel or radio station and chances are, they’ll be playing Irish music.

Failing that just head to Spotify and punch in “St. Patricks Day Music”

A few must play songs in my opinion are as follows;

  • Whiskey in a Jar By The Dubliners

  • Dirty Old Town By The Pogues

  • Galway Girl By Ed Sheeran

  • Galway Girl By Steve Earle

You can basically just play those 4 songs on repeat and your night is complete.

That being said, here’s a YouTube playlist I think does the job perfectly;

Finally, do not forget the karaoke…

Here’s a fab karaoke machine if you don’t already have one

The reason I love this karaoke machine is that it’s the perfect in-between. It’s not so cheap and low budget that you’ll question why the hell you wasted your money in the first place.

But it’s not so high end that you feel like you need to become a professional singer just to make it worth the value.

It’s right in the middle. A powerful piece of kit but still very much something that you’ll only whip out a couple of times a year.

#4 St. Patrick’s Day Food and Drink

Food

For St Patrick’s Day food I’d recommend going through the huge list of Irish goodies that BBC goodfood has to offer. There is something for everyone there. You should also check out Good Housekeeping.

Drink

Cocktails, Green beers, Guinness, and much, much more. So many options, what to do? Don’t worry, I got you. Smartblend will be your go to place for any drinks. Here’s all the resources you need to make the only St. Patricks day drinks you’ll need;

#5 St Patrick’s Day Decorations

The music is sorted, the games and activities are sorted, you’re personally looking fantastic and you have the food and drink ready to go. All that is left is a few tacky pieces of décor to make this party really start popping. Here are my favorite picks.

St Patrick’s Day Balloons

Green Lights

Party Backdrop

Party Props

Bunting and Decoration Set

#6 Capture the Moment

Finally, my top tip for making your St Patricks Day themed party a memorable one is just to take photos. That way you CAN’T forget it. Polaroids are my favorite.

If you don’t have a Polaroid camera and don’t want to spend that much money, I recommend an Instax which you can pick up here on amazon USA or here on amazon UK. Just don’t forget to pick up extra film.
