Set the Tone with Creative Invitations
The excitement starts long before your guests walk through the door. Kick things off with invitations that capture the spirit of your festival. When I hosted my first festival-themed party, I designed invitations to look like actual festival tickets. It was a hit! Guests loved the idea, and it instantly set the tone for the fun ahead.
I’ve created templates of those same tickets so you can do the same, check them out here;
Now if they are for you, you could also DIY your own. Here are a few tips to help with that.
Design Tips
Details Matter: Make sure to include all the important information like the date, time, location, dress code, and how to RSVP.
Visual Appeal: Use bright colors, fun fonts, and maybe even some festival logos to give your invites a professional look.
Digital or Physical: While physical invitations are super fun and can serve as keepsakes, digital versions are eco-friendly and easier to distribute.
Pro Tip: Add a personal touch by writing a fun, festival-related note on each invitation. Something like, "Get ready to dance the night away at [Your Last Name] Fest!"
Fashion is an important (and fun) part of any party. So make sure yourself and your guests dress the parts. For general ideas and outfits you can cheaply put together, check out this article;

But to sum up;
Dress the Part
One of the most fun aspects of festivals is the eclectic and expressive fashion. Encourage your guests to dive into their wardrobes and come dressed in their festival best. At one of my parties, we had everything from boho chic to neon rave attire, and it really added to the atmosphere.
Fashion Inspiration
Boho Chic: Think flowing dresses, flower crowns, and lots of fringe.
Neon and Glitter: Perfect for a rave vibe. Go for bright colors, sequins, and anything that sparkles.
Costume Elements: If your theme is more specific (like a medieval festival), suggest costumes that fit the setting.
Encourage Participation
Best-Dressed Contest: Motivate your guests by offering a prize for the best-dressed person. It adds a fun, competitive element to the night.
Accessories at the Door: Have a box of accessories like sunglasses, temporary tattoos, and glow sticks for guests to use. It’s a small touch that goes a long way.
Pro Tip: Include some style tips in your invitation to help guests who might be unsure of what to wear.
Make Your Guests Feel Like VIPs
One of the coolest additions to my festival-themed parties has been DIY backstage passes. These little details make your guests feel special and add an authentic touch to the event.
Crafting the Passes
Personalized Names: Print each guest's name on their pass along with a fun title like "Rock Star" or "VIP Guest".
Lanyards and Laminates: Use lanyards to make the passes wearable and laminate them to give them a professional feel.
Schedule of Events: Include a schedule of the evening's activities on the back so guests know what's coming up.
Pro Tip: Add some festival graphics and your party’s logo if you have one. It’s these little details that make a big difference.
#4 Festival Food and Drink
Delicious and Thematic Refreshments
No festival is complete without amazing food and drinks. When planning your menu, think of the types of foods you’d find at a festival – fun, varied, and easy to eat while standing or dancing.
Menu Ideas
Street Food: Tacos, sliders, gourmet hot dogs, and mini pizzas are all great options.
Festival Favorites: Consider fun snacks like cotton candy, popcorn, and pretzels.
Signature Drinks: Create a few themed cocktails or mocktails. For a summer festival vibe, think fruity and refreshing drinks. Check out Smartblends summer cocktails for some great festival-themed cocktail recipes that are easy to make at home and even more delicious to drink.
Presentation Matters
Food Stations: Set up different food stations to mimic the variety you’d find at a festival. This also helps with crowd management.
Creative Names: Give your dishes and drinks festival-themed names to add an extra layer of fun.
Pro Tip: Cater to dietary restrictions by offering a variety of options, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices.v
#5 Festival Themed Party Decorations
Transform Your Space
Creating the right atmosphere is crucial. You want your guests to feel like they’ve stepped into a festival as soon as they arrive.

Glowsticks

Decorating Tips
Lighting: Use fairy lights, lanterns, and LED candles to create a magical ambiance.
Color Scheme: Choose vibrant, bold colors that match your festival theme.
Props and Backdrops: Incorporate elements like tents, inflatable furniture, and festival banners. At one of my parties, we set up a small tent with cozy cushions as a chill-out zone – it was a huge hit!
DIY Decorations
Dreamcatchers and Banners: These can be fun to make and add a personal touch to your décor.
Photo Booth Area: Create a dedicated space with a themed backdrop and props for guests to take pictures.
Pro Tip: Utilize both indoor and outdoor spaces if possible. An outdoor area with festival flags and a small stage can really elevate the experience.
#6 The Music
Curate the Perfect Playlist
Music is the heart and soul of any festival. A well-curated playlist can set the mood and keep the energy up all night long.
Playlist Ideas
Mix of Genres: Include a variety of genres that reflect your chosen festival. Think pop, rock, electronic, and indie.
Balance: Mix upbeat tracks with more relaxed tunes to create different vibes throughout the night.
Live Performances: If you have musically talented friends, invite them to perform live. It adds an authentic festival touch.
Practical Tips
Streaming Services: Use services like Spotify or Apple Music to find pre-made festival playlists or create your own.
Sound System: Ensure you have a good sound system in place. Nothing kills the vibe faster than poor audio quality.
Pro Tip: Create different playlists for different parts of the evening – a high-energy one for dancing and a chill one for when people are winding down.
#7 Capture the Moment
Finally, my top tip for making your Eurovision themed party a memorable one is just to take photos. That way you CAN’T forget it. Polaroids are my favorite.
If you don’t have a Polaroid camera and don’t want to spend that much money, I recommend an Instax which you can pick up here on amazon USA or here on amazon UK. Just don’t forget to pick up extra film.
