The Winter Bucket List
Winter is a season filled with unique charm, from the chill in the air to the twinkling lights that fill the streets.
Whether you love the cold or prefer to cozy up inside, there's no denying that winter brings its own magic.
If you're looking for ways to make the most of the season, creating a winter bucket list is a great way to make sure you don't miss out on any of the fun.
From outdoor adventures to cozy indoor activities, here are some ideas to help you create the ultimate winter bucket list.
If you haven’t seen already, this all started after I posted my relationship bucket list. Now I’m bringing you my Christmas season list (not just for couples).
1. Go Ice Skating
Ice skating is one of the most iconic winter activities. Whether you're a seasoned skater or a complete beginner, gliding on ice is a magical experience.
Many cities have outdoor rinks during the winter season, and some even offer ice skating lessons if you're new to the sport.
It's a fun way to get outside, be active, and enjoy the beauty of winter. Plus, the holiday music and twinkling lights around you make it feel extra special.
2. Build a Snowman
This one might be for the kids, but adults can enjoy it just as much. There’s something truly nostalgic about building a snowman, especially when you can be creative with accessories like scarves, hats, and even buttons for eyes.
It’s a great way to get outside, embrace the snow, and enjoy some lighthearted fun with family and friends.
3. Watch Christmas Movies
Winter is the perfect time to binge-watch your favorite holiday films. Whether it’s the classic "Home Alone," the heartwarming "Love Actually," or animated favorites like "The Polar Express," there’s no shortage of feel-good movies to watch during the colder months.
It’s an easy, cozy way to spend time indoors, and Christmas movies always seem to capture the essence of the season.
Just pick anything (or work your way through) the list of best Christmas movies.
4. Go Sledding
If there's enough snow in your area, sledding is a must-do winter activity. Whether you're racing down a hill on a traditional sled, a toboggan, or even a makeshift snow saucer, the thrill never gets old.
Sledding is exhilarating, fun, and a great way to enjoy the snowy weather. Plus, you’ll have some great stories to share afterward!
5. Try Hot Cocoa and Winter Treats
Winter is the season for indulgence, and there’s no better way to treat yourself than with a hot cup of cocoa or some festive holiday treats. Try making homemade hot chocolate with whipped cream, marshmallows, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Sipping something warm is the ultimate way to stay cozy when it's cold outside. You can also try baking seasonal cookies or gingerbread houses to really get into the spirit.
I also recommend if you’re a big hot chocolate fan to try putting on a hot chocolate station night.
6. Go on a Winter Hike
If you’re someone who enjoys hiking, winter offers a whole new perspective on your favorite trails. There’s something peaceful about walking through a winter wonderland, with snow-covered trees and quiet surroundings.
Winter hikes can be magical, especially when the landscape is dusted with snow. The crisp air and stillness of nature are perfect for those looking for tranquility.
7. Take a Holiday Lights Tour
If you’ve never done a holiday lights tour, make this the year you check it off your bucket list. Many neighborhoods, parks, and even local botanical gardens put up extravagant light displays during the winter season.
Walking through or driving by a dazzling display of lights will immediately put you in the holiday spirit, making it a perfect winter tradition.
8. Attend a Winter Festival
Many cities and towns host winter festivals filled with activities like ice sculpture displays, holiday markets, live music, and more. Whether it's a traditional Christmas market or a winter carnival, these events are full of festive fun.
Festivals are a great way to celebrate the season, try local foods, and experience winter activities in a lively atmosphere.
9. Read a Book by the Fire
If you’re more of an indoors person, there’s no better time to get cozy with a good book. Find a comfy chair by the fireplace, wrap yourself in a blanket, and dive into a novel. It’s the ultimate way to unwind and enjoy the season from the warmth of your home.
Currently I’m reading Christmas tree farm. I’m early in but I’d recommend it.
Or pick something from this list of popular Christmas reads.
Winter gives you the perfect excuse to slow down, get cozy, and lose yourself in a good story. It’s a great way to relax and take time for yourself.
10. Have a Winter Picnic
Picnics aren’t just for the summer. A winter picnic can be just as enjoyable, especially if you pack cozy foods like soup in a thermos, sandwiches, and hot drinks. Choose a scenic winter spot, bundle up, and enjoy the cold air while still staying warm.
A winter picnic is unique and memorable, giving you the chance to enjoy nature and winter beauty while still enjoying good food.
11. Go Skiing or Snowboarding
For those lucky enough to live near snow-covered mountains, skiing or snowboarding is one of the best winter activities to enjoy. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced pro, the thrill of skiing down slopes and spending time in the mountains is unmatched.
Skiing or snowboarding offers an adrenaline rush while allowing you to enjoy the beautiful winter landscape. It’s a great way to make the most of the winter season.
12. Watch the Snow Fall
Sometimes, the best way to enjoy winter is by simply sitting back and watching the snow fall. Whether you're inside, curled up with a blanket and a warm drink, or outside, watching the snowflakes drift from the sky is a peaceful and beautiful experience.
It’s a quiet, calming activity that encourages mindfulness and appreciation for nature. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to experience the serene beauty of winter.
13. Take a Winter Road Trip
If you’re looking for a bit of adventure, a winter road trip is an unforgettable experience. Plan a route that takes you through scenic snow-covered landscapes, small towns, or even to a ski resort. Make sure to bring along snacks, music, and plenty of cozy layers.
A road trip gives you the chance to explore new places, enjoy winter’s beauty from the comfort of your car, and create lasting memories along the way.
14. Volunteer for a Winter Charity Event
Winter can be tough for some, and volunteering is a great way to give back during the season.
Whether it’s helping at a food bank, serving meals to those in need, or participating in charity runs, giving back will make you feel good and spread some holiday cheer.
It’s a meaningful way to embrace the season and help others who may be struggling during the cold months.
15. Create a Winter-Themed DIY Project
Winter is the perfect time to get crafty and work on a DIY project. Whether it’s making your own holiday decorations, crafting gifts for loved ones, or creating a cozy winter home décor item, there are endless creative possibilities.
It’s a fun way to spend your time indoors, and you get to show off your creations once they’re done!
